Considering Insinkerator Garbage Disposals

A great way to reduce the amount of garbage accumulated on a daily basis is to invest in a good quality garbage disposal. Disposals efficiently grind up and whisk away leftover food particles, making kitchen cleanup less of a chore.

There are many varieties currently on the market, both online and in retail outlets, but insinkerator garbage disposals are considered one of the best brands on the market.

While prices may range from eighty-five dollars to three hundred and fifty dollars typically, considering a few things before making a final selection will help you select the most appropriate garbage disposal to suit your needs.

As you conduct your research, consider which type of disposal is best suited for your home, and which size motor will be most appropriate. In addition, be sure to decide which optional features will be most beneficial, and know whether or not you have a septic tank. Once you research the aforementioned points, you will be able to narrow down the choices and make an appropriate selection.

The two basic forms of garbage disposals are referred to as “continuous” and “batch feed”. Continuous models require cool running water and an electrical switch in order to operate properly. A continuous feed unit will run until the switch is shut off, and usually a rubber shield is part of the system, so as to prevent debris from flying back out.

Batch feed garbage disposals are generally a bit more expensive and may require additional set up time, but they are oftentimes considered a safer model in many instances. These batch-type models require a stopper to cover the discarded food particles, and are insinkerator garbage disposaloftentimes a better choice if the disposal will be used more frequently.

Many of the basic models on the market are equipped with as little as one-third horsepower, which is suitable for grinding soft food particles such as vegetables.  Disposal motors with less than one-half horsepower are generally discouraged for households with more than two people. If a great deal of food waste will be produced, then a one-horsepower motor may be the best choice, as it will handle grinding chicken bones, and other harder food byproducts.

Waste disposal models often feature anti-jamming devices, to eliminate simpler jams and provide smoother operation.  Pricier models often have enhancements that make them run more quietly, such as an insulated outer shell or a sound baffler.  In addition to these features, models with stainless steel grinding chambers, shredders, and sink flanges tend to provide more effective and long-lasting performance.

Another feature to consider is whether or not the disposal allows you to attach it to your dishwasher.  This feature may eliminate the chore of having to pre-rinse your dishes before placing them in the dishwasher.

Finally, if there is a septic tank present, remember that disposals use a great deal of water and may require more frequent tank cleaning.  As a final note, be sure to consider the terms and conditions of the service warranty, and the cost of any additional parts that may be necessary. Once you have made the aforementioned determinations, you have the information necessary to make an informed decision in choosing the most appropriate garbage disposal for you
