Badger Garbage Disposal
One of the commonly seen food waste disposal brand names is the badger garbage disposal. Another related line is called the insinkerator disposal.
Below are comments on some of the badger disposals and insinkerators.
Insinkerator Evolution with ¾
Horsepower
This one I found with some of the highest rated reviews. It is advertised as running
forty per cent quieter than a standard disposer. It has lots of stainless steel a baffle collar that can be
removed. It comes with a nice four year service warranty. Want to rest easy that if you have a problem then
someone will come to your house to fix it, then this is the one for you.
As of this writing, I found these in the two hundred dollar range.
Here are some summaries of the comments made in the reviews at Amazon on the
insinkerator evolution.
About the compact:
-Hardest part was getting the old one out.
-Only needed my wife to hold a piece down for a minute, otherwise very easy to
install.
-No plumbing issues and no leaks.
-Was eighty percent quieter than the one I removed. Mild hum and little
vibration.
Another review summary:
-Old one was working fine
but was very noisy. Tried this to reduce the noise. Glad I did.
Much quieter and doesn’t rattle the sink like the old one
did.
-The blue color attracted me. (That makes it easier to spot I suppose)
This insinkerator got five stars in the ratings and it’s difficult to find anything
negative about it. Another 5 starer is the one below.
Insinkerator Evolution Excel 1.0 HP Food Waste
Disposer
This ups the ante from the model described above. A little more money but some people
like to go all out.
This one is advertised as sixty per cent quieter than standard machines and has a
seven year fix it in your home warranty. And get this, it even has a jam sensor to break up the toughest food
waste jobs.
The proof is where the rubber meets the road as they say. So what do owners have to
say. Here again are some summaries of reviewers comments:
-Never installed a disposal before and this was easy.
-Got it in and wanted to test it. Threw in a potato. It was history!
-Worth every penny I paid for it.
-Almost too quiet!
-Not my first choice because of price but very easy to install and super
quiet.
Badger 5 Garbage Disposal – Insinkerartor Badger ½ HP Food Waste
Disposal
Now comes a more basic model and we’re talking around one hundred dollars. This one s
has less power than the ones above (though there are different models to choose from with more horsepower).
The warranty is less too. While in-home, it is for two years.
This model may work for you depending on what you need. How careful are you with what
you put it? How often will it be used? Where is it going to be used?
The reviews on Amazon were not as positive as with the previous models. Here’s a
couple of direct quotes to give you an idea:
I installed my Badger 5 two years ago. I'm a single homeowner so it was used lightly.
After grinding some onion scraps I noticed a leak under the sink. After careful inspection I noticed the
disposal developed a crack in the housing unit. A quick call to InSinkErator revealed the unit was still
under warrantee. I had a repair person out the following day who replaced the entire disposal with a Badger
5XP (he said they've stopped making the Badger 5). The problem was resolved quickly and to my satisfaction.
My only concern with this unit is how or why it developed the crack with such light usage.
This review was a bit more positive:
I had an InSinkErator that was in my house when I bought it. I had it for 10 years so
who knows how old it was. When it wore out I was certain that it would be a big job to replace it. I ordered
the same model (yes they still make the same model) and I installed it without changing a single fitting. It
took about a half hour and it is very hard to access under my sink. I could have installed it quicker if it
wasn't so tight under my kitchen sink.
